No longer forward nor behind
I look in hope and fear;
But grateful take the good I find,
The best of now and here.

getting there

no one left to fool every wall you've built is gone
you don't know what to do to get off the path you're on
you are questioning the very truth you've believed in all along
looking back on how it used to be you wonder what went wrong
but deep inside your heart there is a prayer
that love will find you there

living with the pain from the choices you have made
knowing how to change but believing its too late
every path you take convinces you
that you don't know who you are
but the voice inside is telling you, you've never gone to far
whispering the promise of a prayer that love will find you there

there's a broken heart that's healing there's a life that has been changed
there are answers to the prayers that you have prayed
when you're sure your soul can't make it one more day
love will find you there and light your way

One Who knows your heart and sees what you can't see
has been there from the start and believes in what you'll be
He will shine a light through every darkest fear you'll ever know
His arms are reaching out to you through the ones who love you so
He will hear your heart's unspoken prayer
love will find you there

i beseech thee

"The breaking of the alabaster box
and the anointing of the Lord filled the house with the odor,
with the sweetest odor. Everyone could smell it.
Whenever you meet someone who has really suffered;
been limited, gone through things for the Lord,
willing to be imprisoned by the Lord,
just being satisfied with Him and nothing else,
immediately you scent the fragrance.
There is a savor of the Lord.
Something has been crushed, something has been broken,
and there is a resulting odor of sweetness."

You knew you'd cry
Here's to goodbye
Tomorrow's gonna come too soon

a lesson learned

a lesson learned

Quite often, as life goes on, when we feel completely secure as we go on our way,
we suddenly notice that we are trapped in error,
that we have allowed ourselves to be taken in by individuals, by objects,
have dreamt up an affinity with them
which immediately vanishes before our waking eye;
and yet we cannot tear ourselves away,
held fast by some power that seems incomprehensible to us.
Sometimes, however, we become fully aware and realize
that error as well as truth can move and spur us on to action.
Now because action is always a decisive factor,
something really good can result from an active error,
because the effect of all that has been done reaches out into infinity.
So although creative action is certainly always best,
destroying what has been done is also not without happy consequence.

life is not merely a series of accidents or coincidences but rather a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite sublime plan

"Whosoever wishes to know about the world must learn about it in its particular details.
Knowledge is not intelligence.
In searching for the truth be ready for the unexpected.
Change alone is unchanging.
The same road goes both up and down.
The beginning of a circle is also its end.
Not I, but the world says it: all is one.
And yet everything comes in season."

fill me

fill me

Father, to Thee I raise my whole being,
a vessel emptied of self. Accept Lord,
this my emptiness, and so fill me with
Thyself - Thy Light, Thy Love, Thy
Life - that these, Thy precious Gifts
may radiate through me and overflow
the chalice of my heart into
the hearts of all with whom I
come in contact this day
revealing unto them
the beauty of
Thy Joy
and
Wholeness
and
the
serenity
of Thy Peace
which nothing can destroy

the gift

the gift
Have you ever been at sea in a dense fog, when it seemed as if a tangible white darkness shut you in and the great ship, tense and anxious, groped her way toward the shore with plummet and sounding-line, and you waited with beating heart for something to happen? I was like that ship before my education began, only I was without compass or sounding line, and no way of knowing how near the harbor was. "Light! Give me light!" was the wordless cry of my soul, and then light of love shone on me in that very hour.

the night that falls

(and dawn a dream of brighter things)
an eyelid slips its anchored folds
and flutters in the morning's gold
a day is born that never was before
and how could i ask for more?

morning walk

The moment when you first wake up in the morning is the most wonderful of the twenty-four hours. No matter how weary or dreary you may feel, you possess the certainty that, during the day that lies before you, absolutely anything may happen. And the fact that it practically always doesn't, matters not a jot. The possibility is always there.

bloom

All these things have you said of beauty.
Yet in truth you spoke not of her but of needs unsatisfied,
And beauty is not a need but an ecstasy.
It is not a mouth thirsting nor an empty hand stretched forth,
But rather a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted.
It is not the image you would see nor the song you would hear,
But rather an image you see though you close your eyes and a song you hear though you shut your ears.
It is not the sap within the furrowed bark, nor a wing attached to a claw,
But rather a garden for ever in bloom and a flock of angels for ever in flight.
People of Orphalese, beauty is life when life unveils her holy face.
But you are life and you are the veil.
Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror.
But you are eternity and your are the mirror.

from an empty stage

At this time, as before
A solitary figure
Says, "Thank you," to the empty stage
And silent furniture.

It's impossible to explain
The pull of this, the theatre
But my soul is part of it's
Never-ending grandeur

It speaks to me, and calls my name
And I will always know
That this is truly home for me
Forever, on with the show!

remembered

We are all longing to go home to some place we have never been —
a place half-remembered and half-envisioned
we can only catch glimpses of from time to time.
Community.
Somewhere, there are people to whom we can speak with passion
without having the words catch in our throats.
Somewhere a circle of hands will open to receive us,
eyes will light up as we enter,
voices will celebrate with us whenever we come into our own power.
Community
means strength that joins our strength to do the work that needs to be done.
Arms to hold us when we falter.
A circle of healing.
A circle of friends.
Someplace where we can be free.

welcome to the world

When you were born, beloved, was your soul
New made by God to match your body's flower,
And were they both at one same precious hour
Sent forth from heaven as a perfect whole?
Or had your soul since dim creation burned,
A star in some still region of the sky,
That leaping earthward, left its place on high
And to your little new-born body yearned?
No words can tell in what celestial hour
God made your soul and gave it mortal birth,
Nor in the disarray of all the stars
Is any place so sweet that such a flower
Might linger there until thro' heaven's bars,
It heard God's voice that bade it down to earth.

a match made in heaven

What greater thing is there for two human souls
than to feel that they are joined together to strengthen
each other in all labor, to minister to each other in all sorrow,
to share with each other in all gladness,
to be one with each other in the
silent unspoken memories?
